Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions Program

The Utah State University Blanding Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions (NASNTI) project has been designed to support U.S. Department of Education – Goal 3 established in response to the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993: “Ensure the accessibility, affordability, and accountability of higher education, and better prepare students and adults for employment and future learning. The NASNTI team committed to focusing their attention to plan, undertake, and carry out activities to improve and expand the institution’s capacity to serve Native American students.

The project focuses on three goals that are coordinated to promote cultural awareness in context of the learning environment for Native American college students. In addition, the project will provide greater access to and understanding of the college system for the parents of disadvantaged and first generation students. The programming in the project is directed toward the majority (Native American) of the students on the Blanding Campus.

I grew up in Blanding, Utah and graduated from Monument Valley High School and attended BYU. I graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Ed. I've had the privilege to go back to Monument Valley High School to become a teacher and coach Football and Wrestling for 21 years. I am excited to be here at USU Blanding to serve as the NASNTI coordinator of programs. Education has been something that I 'recognized' as an important part of my life at an early age, and that’s why I’m here to inspire and motivate these students here at USU Blanding.
